Gardens, Golf and Whisky

St Andrews, Falkland Palace and the East Neuk of Fife

Tour description

Your day begins on Edinburgh’s most famous street, the Royal Mile as you board the bus and meet your driver-guide. He’ll introduce you to our fantastic capital city’s old and new towns before setting off towards the Kingdom of Fife! On the way your driver will point out the incredible Forth Road Bridge, a stunning example of Victorian engineering.

You’ll pass through the pretty East Neuk fishing villages. We’ll stop at Anstruther which has a lovely traditional harbour full with fishing boats. From here you’ll be able to make out the Isle of May, famous for its bird colonies. We’ll then continue on to the oldest of the East Neuk burghs, Crail, one of the most picturesque fishing villages you’ll come across, complete with winding cobbled streets and a miniature harbour.

We’ll then continue on to the close by Kingsbarn Distillery*. Scotland’s newest distillery offers an introduction to Scotch whisky, a chance to test your sense of smell and ends with a whisky tasting! For those not interested in Whisky there’s a lovely café at the visitor centre or the option to walk to the nearby Cambo Gardens*.

We’ll then make our way to St Andrews! Your driver-guide will show you around the town before dropping you off at a central location. Yes, with its very own golf museum, it’s a must for any golf lovers. But, with beautiful beaches ( one you may recognise from Chariots of Fire), numerous historical sights to discover (notably a Castle and Cathedral), a world renowned university and an incredible ice-cream shop (with over 100 flavours!) you won’t be short of things to do here.

Our day ends with a visit to the stunning Falkland Palace. Found at the heart of the conservation village of Falkland, the Palace*, part ruin, part reconstruction imagines the elaborate life of a Scottish King as it once was. The extensive grounds are worth exploring as they hold the remnants of a 12th century castle and are home to the oldest tennis courts in the entire world. From here we’ll return back to Edinburgh for approximately 6pm.

Please note, optional extras:

Kingsbarns Distillery £10.00

Falkland Palace & Gardens £6.00
